Colosseum Nightscape, Rome, Italy

Memory-haunted arena of the ancients, Rome’s 1,900-year-old Colosseum saw bloody gladiatorial duels, battles with wild beasts, and mock naval engagements on its flooded floor. Christians banned the spectacles, and in later centuries presented church dramas here. Time, earthquakes, and stone scavengers took their toll. Still, the treasured monuments survived and again serves Rome- as a traffic circle. Cars at evening rush hour create streaks of light in this time exposure, which also captures horse-drawn carriages waiting at curbside for tourists.

I’m pretty sure they have sample sales in every city, but a New York sample sale is a very unique experience. My friend works for Manolo Blahnik, so she tipped me off to their bi-annual (and very hard to get into) press sale a couple of weeks ago. After attending a few sample sales while I’ve lived here, I’ve vowed never to step foot in another one ever again. But, since my friend told me she would put me on a list and gave me specific instructions on when to get there, I thought I would give it one more try and all I’m going to say is that I was very successful!! Since I’m too lazy to recap the entire thing, here’s Racked NY’s live-blog account of how it went. Thankfully, I was one of those lucky VIPs that she’s talking about who got in first and my friend is the “staffer” who is mentioned :) For the record, I didn’t see André Leon Talley. There have been conflicting reports on whether he ever made his famed appearance where he gives women his opinions and expertise. Also, in this link, I’m pretty sure I’m in the first picture - the only person standing all the way in the back.

I know it’s been a while since my last post - two weeks, actually. But we have been quite busy! We have had company come stay with us, my birthday was this past week, and we are beginning to pack and get everything together for our road trip out of here!
Our West Coast side of the family visited a couple weekends ago, which gave us the perfect excuse to see New York through a tourist’s eyes again - something neither of us has done in a very long time.
Personally, those razory eyebrows give me the willies. But, as much as these outfits are jarring, there’s something really beautiful about the looks she puts together. Everything is so detailed and put there on purpose with lots of thought behind it. I don’t love it as much as some of the other stuff she’s worn, but I don’t hate it as much as those nude latex dresses.
I’m not feeling it, sorta reminds me of a combination of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” and Madonna’s “Like A Prayer”. What do you think?

I have mixed feelings about last weekend. There seemed to be a theme to the weekend that made me feel and understand certain emotions that I hadn’t felt yet since deciding to move.
On Friday night, I met up with my friend, Mariela, who I’ve known since our freshman year in college. We have been meaning to meet up for months and were finally able to sync up our schedules, so decided on dinner at Craft. Craft is one of Tom Colicchio’s restaurants (the judge from Top Chef), so I knew it would be good, and even though it’s not on my Official Bucket List, I have always wanted to try it out. Everything was very tasty - a lot of the dishes had hints of lemon, which I love - but this dinner didn’t end up being about the delicious meal. It ended up being about catching up with an old friend and finding out things about myself in the process.

NBC’s The Voice premiered on Tuesday night. I hadn’t really planned on watching, but saw it on the guide while I was planning out what to watch after the “Born This Way” episode of Glee ended, and thought I’d give it a shot.
As a pretty big American Idol fan (my level of interest ranges depending on the season - this season I’m completely obsessed), I wasn’t really sure what to expect out of The Voice. Is it an AI knockoff? What’s going to make this talent show different from AAAALLLLLLLLLLLL the other ones out there?
Well, here’s the way it works:
